Members of the Senior Citizen Care Charitable Trust met with Member of Parliament Mannalal Rawat today, discussing the role of senior citizens in the city’s development and raising several civic concerns, before joining together for a spirited Holi celebration.
Key issues raised with the MP included:
- Free venues in the city for senior citizen meetings and functions.
- Regular patrolling in parks and public spaces to curb anti-social activity.
- Removal of encroachments from footpaths to ease movement for seniors and the general public.
- Clearing encroachments along the Hiranmagri main road park so that seniors and residents can use the seating space.
- A single-window facility at the Collectorate to address seniors’ concerns and provide information and assistance.
- Exemption from in-person requirements for seniors with serious illnesses or limited mobility when obtaining prescriptions under RGHS or similar schemes.
- Formal inclusion of senior citizens in the city’s development planning.
- Establishment of high-quality old-age care homes for seniors living alone.
- Direct rail connectivity to South India and Mumbai.
The MP assured the group that appropriate action would be taken on these points. Earlier in the visit, he honoured all the senior members present by draping ceremonial shawls (uparna) around them.
Marking the occasion of Holi, members sang a selection of traditional Holi songs, and the MP joined in as well, singing along with the group. Smt. Rajni Rawat’s performance was a highlight of the celebration.
Trust Chairman Dr. Anurag noted that 50 senior citizens took part in the event and thoroughly enjoyed the celebration.
